April 9th Had a good client out today for a fun filled sunday of steelheading. The moring was very cold but we managed to get into several before lunch and also several more after lunch. The fish are mixxed brighter and some darker steelies.Scott also caught a very nice brown. |
April 8th Ahhhhhh....back on my home waters ! And back to catching fish! The river is very very high, but the visibility is ok. Had a couple of long time clients out today. We ended up with 5 steelies in the boat and a nice walleye. Look for the run to near peak when the water drops. The fishing is going to be great for the next several weeks. |
April 7th Had the same group out today again, the weather totally sucked but the fishing was better. We put two nice steelies in the net before we were drove off the river by constant rain turning to snow with falling temps. Not fun!!! The river is sure to rise in a day or two as we got dumped on big time. Too wet for pics sorry. |
April 6th Had a group out on the Pm today, the river was fishable from a boat but not very wadeable for the average angler. The fishing in the am was better than the afternoon. We failed to boat any steelhead but had our chances. Small stones hatching bringing a few brownies to the top. Look for a good push of fish, possibly the peak to show on the river as the water drops and clears in the next week or two. |
April 5th Had good friend and client Mike. M out today on the Muskegon. We had a pretty decent day as far as hookups go but only managed to put one steelhead in the boat, loosing at least 6 more.We also landed several nice walleyes and a bunch of trout. There are good numbers in the river but all the fluctuating of the water levels has the fish a bit off the bite. There are fish in the pools and on the gravel, although they are very very hard to spot. |
April 4th Had a tough go of it today,we landed 3 steelies and lost 4 or 5 more. The river is rising once again and is gaining color. Temp is in the lower 40's. We had lots of precip a few nights ago and the ground is so saturated most of it is running into the river. Look for the river to rise the next day or two and get pretty dirty once again.
Now is the time to book your summer charters |
April 3rd Had a couple of troopers out today. We fished through every type of weather you could imagine and caught plenty of fish. The bite was great today. Several nice steelhead and a great 19" brown. The rains will bring color and higher water to the muskegon once again. |
April 2nd Had a father son team and cousin out today. The river was very busy but we managed to put a couple in the boat and loosing more than we would have liked to lose. The water is holding steady. Still a few dates open. The peak is yet to come! |
March 31st Had Dave and Tom out today. We found several spots holding good numbers of chrome females. Did no t catch a single male today and not a single dark fish either. All fish were fresh from the lake. It looks like the main run is starting to enter the river. |
March 29th - 30th Fished the last two days with long time clients (for at least 10 yrs) John and Glen. These two have had some great days with me and the past two were the kind that kinda average everything out. Although we did land several fish each day we had to work for our fish. The morning bite has been better than the afternoon. The water is clearing and dropping still. The Pm has passed more fish this week for you that may want to wade, it might be a great option. |
March 28th Was out today with two guys that are no strangers to steelies on the big Mo.....Two complete trout bums put a good case of butt kicking on Mr.Steelhead. We had a great morning bite but it slowed when the sun came out. Clown eggs and O. Cheese did the damage today. The water is still on the high side but is clearing.Good fishing throughout the river system.
April 1,2,10,11 Open |
March 27th Had a nice day on the PM fishing for steelhead. We had a very tough day but did find several to throw at. The fish were very tight lipped most likely from a busy weekend and high sun. This river needs rain, the water is low and clear already. Temp was 44 degrees in the afternoon. Some fish digging redds also some in faster pools. Word is that the weir has passed more fish over the weekend. No fish landed today....arrrgghhh. Muskegon reports for the rest of the week. |
March 26th Had long time client Scott B and his friend Dan out today. The morning was good for several and the afternoon also produced a few. We did have to work hard for our fish but had a pretty good day in spite of all the traffic. Suny weather didnt help much either. |
March 25th Had the pleasure of having Kevin and his father Carl out today. The morning bite was great on egg patters and caddis nymphs. Once the sun got up and the traffic came the fish shut down for the most part. Today was very very busy. Water levels are slowly dropping and clearing. |
March 24th Had John F. out again today.....he had such a great time on wednesday he had to take advantage of my open date today. We had a very slow start, but finished very well. The traffic is getting heavier. Water has dropped but still is fairly stained. There is a good mix of spring and mid-winter steelies. The fish are well spread thru the river.
Still have April 1,2,10,11 open along with some other dates. Call for current openings 231-250-9745 |
March 23rd Had another great day on the Muskegon......Good fishing and great company. The river is slowly coming down, still very cloudy. Sight fishing is not an option right now. Natural eggs and small nymphs seemed to work the best today. The weekend is sure to be busy. |
March 22nd Had a great day on the Muskegon today. We fished bait today, so I had planned on doing a little better and we did. Proving that the fish are there but need to smell the bait as the water is still very cloudy. The water is still pretty high but is dropping slowly. Water temps are still around the mid-30's. Look for softer water and fish hard for the biters. The pressure on the river is coming up, look for the weekend to be busy. |
March 21st Hit the Muskegon today for the first time since the big flood. We fished flies and had to work for our fish....mostly because the water is still very clouded. I believe that there are plenty of fish its just a matter of getting the fly in front of the fish. Huge egg flies in bright colors hooked all of our fish today. We landed 2 and lost several more. Look for things to get rocking once the water clears. |
March 20th Just a quick report. We have been on th PM the last few days. There are fish around, but you really have to work for them. We have had our best luck with steelies on natural eggs and small nymphs. Several nice browns also taking interest in our offerings. The water is back to normal with just a slight stain. Back on the Muskegon for March 21. The water is still cold and high, but very close to being fishable. Look for a Big Mo report tomorrow.
Friday is still open 3/24 also 4/1 and 4/2.... |
March 18th Due to the recent high waters I had to cancel or reschedule trips thru Thursday of last week. I have been fishing the Pm the last few days and we have been managing a few fish per day. No big numbers have passed the weir yet, but that will improve big time with the next warm up. Most of the fish we are catching are mid winter holdovers. I believe many fish from the fall have already completed their duties on that river. The best files have been natural sized eggs in Chart.,Orange and Cheese colors. The normal nymphs have also been working.
As for the Muskegon look for it to start fishing by mid week. The water has only dropped a foot or two but it has cleared up considerably. This river should be great when the water returns to normal. Trips all week except Friday. |
March 10th The river is rising and the fish are on their way. Plenty of new fish will be entering the rivers this weekend. The question is how fishable will the rivers stay? Try larger flies and brighter eggs for sucess. Look for a great fishing as the rivers begin to take shape in a few days. The word on th Pm is that the weir is on and very few fish have passed. Still a few days open so call or email soon for availability.
Still some openings so if your sitting on the fence give us a call soon. Also it is time to book your summer charters as things will fill up fast as the weather warms. |
March 5th Fished with Dave for a 1/2 day trip today again on the Big "MO".We really had to work for our fish today hooking up 4 times but only getting looks at the fish while they were still in the river. Very camera shy fish today. Sometimes fishing goes this way...I guess this is what keeps us all coming back. If it was easy everyone would do it! All and all still a great day on the river. Look for a fresh push of silver fish by the weekend. Crowds are starting to show...book a trip with us to get away from the crowds and have a succesful day. Sorry no pics |
March 4th Today I was out with Mark and Bob chasing Muskegon river steelies. We had a great day, putting 5 steelies and many great trout in the boat. Also loosing a few...Egg flies fooled all the steelies, but the trout were looking for the small nymphs. Stoneflies are starting to become active and will influence fly choice very soon. You could tell spring is around the corner as fish and wildlife were very active. |
March 3rd Hit the river with Dan S. We decided to try a technique a little different from the way I have been fishing. We spent a 1/2 day on the Muskegon river hotshotting for March steelies. After a couple of weak hits we finally saved the day with this awesome march male steelie. We had several hits but only stuck this one....The water is perfect and we are looking forward to a warm up next week. Trips all weekend watch for further updates. |
Feburary 27th-28th Fished the last two days with a good friend and client Jeff B. The afternoon bite was the best on Monday and the morning bite was the best on Tuesday...go figure. There are a decent number of fish in the system both new and old. The water temps have been in the low to mid-30's and should warm quickly due to the fact that there is no snow cover to speak of. The stoneflies should be hatching any day now and this will get the steelies to key in on those tiny nymphs. As of late, egg patterns have still been producing the best. Try an egg and a nymph dropper to cover all the bases.
Open dates are still available for this spring but are going fast. |
